This two-day course provides a structured and practice-oriented preparation for CIA Part 2 – Internal Audit Engagement. The focus is on the complete audit engagement process: from defining objectives and scope and assessing risks through gathering and evaluating evidence to developing findings, conclusions and appropriate engagement communication.

Participants apply examination-relevant concepts to practical scenarios, work with exam-style questions and develop strategies for approaching complex questions efficiently. The course also helps participants identify individual knowledge gaps and prioritise their further preparation.

The course is designed to complement individual self-study and does not replace comprehensive independent exam preparation.

Exam Preparation and Practical Application

  • Structured analysis of CIA Part 2 exam-style questions
  • Application of engagement concepts to practical audit scenarios
  • Review of core topics, common pitfalls and individual exam strategies

Module 1: Engagement Planning

  • Engagement objectives, scope and appropriate evaluation criteria
  • Risk assessment, key risks and controls, and relevant Topical Requirements
  • Audit approach, engagement procedures, work programmes and required resources

Module 2: Information Gathering, Analysis and Evaluation

  • Gathering and evaluating relevant, sufficient and reliable evidence
  • Interviews, observations, process mapping, data analytics and analytical review techniques
  • Developing findings, identifying root causes, preparing workpapers and drawing engagement conclusions

Module 3: Engagement Supervision and Communication

  • Supervision, workpaper review and quality throughout the engagement
  • Effective stakeholder communication during planning, fieldwork and reporting
  • Escalation of relevant issues and selection of appropriate communication methods

Tatjana Sakuta has more than 20 years of international experience in external audit, controlling and internal audit. She is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and specializes in risk-based audits, financial processes, governance and internal control systems. In addition to her work in international industrial and financial companies, she worked as an audit trainer at EY for four years and has extensive experience in developing and delivering audit training.
